Am I right in saying the Xbox 360 is supposed to act as an upscaling DVD for SD?

I'm sure its supposed to, but I could be wrong.

Whats funny is some jackass said VGA couldnt handle 1080p...and i dont know why I even bought into it...doesnt make sense...unless he is right and something in the software fakes something.

I still can't get over how you guys use the xbox as your dvd player...Maybe I'm too anal about video quality.

I've got one in my bedroom, and both kid's. In the living room, I have an old Pioneer progressive that I use.

I use the xbox for a dvd player in my bedroom...course now i have in the living room, and if the upscaling in it is that good itll stay there.

I was just A/Bing the xbox360 with my dvd player...no difference. I didnt need the test to tell me that...but the xbox actually makes a really good dvd player.

Course I dont have a super expensive dvd player with a farjouda chip, et all either :D

I picked up the VGA cables...they suck.

The upressing through VGA kills the blacks, the whites, and any semblance of good color. It made everything milky and crappy. And yes, I went over the settings and tried different things. The components just look better, even though they can't support the higher res for movies and such.

XBOX NEEDS HDMI!

Naw. I've run digital rca for my 5.1. All my research said it was 6 of 1, half dozen of the other when it came to using optical or digital rca.

XBox through VGA doesn't use 0-255 PC levels ... it uses some subset of that (16-235) ... so if the TV is expecting PC levels, you'll get that.

But I'm sure you know that better than I do.

I'm coming back to this one real quick...Are you saying (assuming there is a setting in the TV menu) that I can change a setting to make everything look right? Or it doesnt matter. Id just be stuck with the same shitty image the VGA provides?

If I can change it to make it look proper...I'd most likely buy the VGA cable again.

I'm pretty sure most HDTVs that have VGA inputs were designed so that a PC could be hooked up through them. XBox through VGA doesn't send PC color levels. I don't think there's any setting you can change on the XBox, but maybe your TV has something.
