i cant believe the warranty is only 90 days and no longer 1 year. console cut itself off right after the controllers batteries died. wouldnt turn back on. i come home from getting take out. great. did a few things, call CS. get a dothead that doesnt tell me im out of warranty until i ask for an RMA. dothead tries to explain in english how to get the game CD out of the tray while having no power. FTL.

then after i cant get the game out and its been a while (possible cool down) i plug it in and i have power with four flashing red lights. do a check and four flashing red lights is because its no longer plugged into the tv. put it back in a new slot with more air flow and no components near it just in case it was heat related.

im so glad its working, since ive bought a shit load of games for xmas for it. hope it lasts until after the holidays. :jesus:/

You do know you could have just bought another one, swapped it and returned it...right? They just RTV the one you bring back anyway.

If you get the red ring of death, they still might get you a new one if you're out of warranty. People are saying it's happening to them. :dunno:

A 3 yr warranty through Best Buy FTW!

yeah im at fault. i never buy the extended warranty at the store. the reason is that ive never used it. so i insure it myself and take the standard warranty. hell i have a refurbished ps2 with no problems.

i think it was possible a loose AV line or it did in fact over heat a little. however it was only on for around 20 or so minutes before it went out. the cat might have got the wire running, dont know. it might have over heated from the dish receiver, so i moved the ps2 and put the xbox in its place which has nothing even close to it to hold in heat. put some compressed air into the heating vents to clean out any dust. replaced and charged the batteries to the controllers. all seems ok now for now.

son played halo for 6 hours straight with no issues last night and the controller charged just fine. so maybe just a glitch i hope.

Well, hopefully you'll have no more issues.

Yeah, I saw that. That was pretty late for your time zone, but then, he's on vacation. :mhihi:

well he either played until 4 am or he fell a sleep and woke up at 4 to go to bed. i had to piss so i woke up about that time.

he will probably just tell me he was putting the xbox to the torture test for me. nothing like spending 300 bucks on games and the console is toast FTW.

Quite a number of the red ring of death issues appear to actually just be related to the A/V cable coming loose and people not knowing any better.

I'll be relying on Amex's warranty-doubling if something goes wrong.

well i was already at the FAQ section looking for info on how to get the cd out of a powerless unit. when i got power to it and the unit was disconnected from the tv is when i got the red lights. the site was open and found out quickly about the a/v cable with regards to the red lights. thats when my son told me that it gave the red lights just prior to powering off. i was like that would have been good information while i was talking to the dothead but no too late.

and everyone wonders why i ask so many questions about the circumstances surrounding any item that i have to fix. its not like i was there.
