That part's fine (except for the stupid people doing the voting) ... it's the socialism part to follow that will be hard to swallow -- that and the sure-to-pass constitutional amendment making him dictator for life.

And it's spreading in other Latin American nations as well. Things are going to get interesting in the next 10 years. Mexico is also a clusterfuck, which is nothing really new, it's just an extra picante clusterfuck right now.

Using my gun analogy, it's like saying a shot to the knee > a shot to the head, which is true.

My point of this thread is that democracy is only a good thing when the people we like are the ones getting the votes.
You cant expect to change a culture of corruption so easily. When everything from traffic tickets to taxes can get paid off with a bribe, how can you expect anything different.

I don't think anyone is suggesting the US intervene with Latin American nations or Mexico. It's more about being aware of what is happening in the region.
They can function as socialist nations, that's their prerogative. It's worked great in other nations!

It's true - at least with Hispanic Despots you can usually distract them with a spicy mambo beat.

King Arthur: I am your king.
Woman: Well I didn't vote for you.
King Arthur: You don't vote for kings.
Woman: Well how'd you become king then?
King Arthur: The Lady of the Lake, her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water, signifying by divine providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. THAT is why I am your king.
Dennis: Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.
Dennis: Oh, but you can't expect to wield supreme executive power just because some watery tart threw a sword at you.
Dennis: Oh but if I went 'round sayin' I was Emperor, just because some moistened bint lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away.

All you have to do is pronounce it "Venethuela" and they lose any semblance of being a threat they have otherwise had.

You would be surprised what goes on down there. Venezuela should be one of the "axis of evil" fosho, and it's just the beginning.

What's ironic is that in his speech, Chavez was saying how it was free from US colonization and socialism is human (paraphrased of course).
1) Venezuela depends HEAVILY on the US as an outlet for its sour crude. It's not like it can sell it anywhere in the world. Its US-based refineries are designed to handle heavier crudes. So it's odd Chavez would have so much discontent for the US. In other words, Chavez is a master rhetorician who is seriously a loon - he needs to rally people however possible, much like any politician. The only problem is that he is not just "any" politician. He aligns himself with nations like Iran and NK, which should tell us plenty.
2) Socialism is NOT human - socialist regimes in the past have murdered countless millions of people - is that also human?
