Anyone own a pair? I forgot how effin' comfortable these things are. I have a pair that's probably about five years old now, and have been sitting in my closet unused for quite a while after the laces broke. It was bloody impossible to find flat, cotton laces in a brown color that would work with these shoes, so it was fortunate I happened by a Mephisto store in Chicago. :mhihi:

Anyway, since they've been out of commission for so long, I really need to do something to restore them a bit. Should I just take them to a shoe repair store after this long to restore the leather, or will it buff right out? :mhihi:

They're a little bit scuffed up up-front ... can you just use regular shoe polish on these things?

Do you just throw out $300 shoes when the leather gets a bit worn, or do you recondition them? Am I Schwartzing?

...but to anwer your question above...no...I don't just toss out dress shoes...more often then the leather going bad...I go through soles and have them 'cobble' me a new sole. :snicker: :bigok:

Something like that ... I had a Nordstom's gift cert. They're handmade, high quality shoes, and comfy. Try justifying a $100+ pair of sneakers instead. :mhihi:

I'd recondition shoes like that in a heartbeat, as do most sound minded people. I have a pair of dress shoes that I love and got them re-soled and reconditioned for like $40 and they are basically a brand new pair of shoes again. They are comfortable as hell too.

300 bucks?! Man...I'm still pondering that for those shoes. :dunno:

I know some of you guys shop at Nordstrom a lot ... try on a pair next time you have a chance. They're very nice.

I couldn't see myself spending so much for a casual shoe had it not been for the gift certificates either, but I think they could very well be worth the price ... especially if they recondition nicely.

I'm not sure anything at Nordstrom is worth quite the price they ask for it. :mhihi: But they're at least $200 nice ... hand-made, very high quality ... the laces run through metal rings attached to loops in the leather, such that the top of the shoe tightens in a very nice way. They're also phenomenally comfortable, but that might just be how they happen to fit me. Heck, if they recondition well too, they'll end up being a bargain.

BTW, I am not sure how well casual shoes like that would recondition. Maybe the maker will do it for, ohhhh, $100?

Mephisto are known to be some of the most comfortable footwear you can buy.

They are expesive as shit, but worth the coin. they have much newer styles that are more hip now.

Personally, I prefer ecco. Especially their Track II boots. I have about 3 pair that I rotate while I work.

And I have found Ferragamo to be the most comfy dress shoe.

Gotta pay to play.

Your feet are the key to your back.

I keep my feet happy, and when working 12 hours + on my feet, they keep the rest of my body happy.

I'll spend whatever I need to to make sure that is attained.

Dirt McGirt is from a land where they walk around barefoot. He's still getting used to this while "shoe" thing.
